Aristodemo Bernacchia, for his friends "Nino", is the last descendant of a family that for centuries has been working with wood. Of course, the grandfather, great-grandfather, and for many years, also Papa Santino, Factory "carts." Then, that market is exhausted and the company Bernacchia has concentrated on the production of tables.
Nino has arrived at his father's shop, moving from Ostra Pianello to about the mid-50s, just finished the eighth grade exams. To guide the production of tables was certainly an inspired idea, because - "despite having to deal with the changing tastes of the market" - the product has ever pulled.
Ten workers at the factory are a constant presence, as well as decentralizing to the many small craft businesses of our region.
Years ago the company was exporting tables in many European countries and also in some non-European, but now the market is mainly the Italian. With one exception: Russia and also a bit 'of Siberia, where, thanks to the presence of our fellow citizen, who goes back and forth between Italy and Moscow, was born an attractive market. Many
production ends at the Venetian merchants, who sell all over the country.
The company, however, its customers, including in regions such as Sicily, Calabria and Puglia, where there are many loads of tables for Greece.
The work, therefore, is not lacking. It 'must, however, continually adapt to the prices of international competition, particularly that of emerging countries.
And the relationship with banks, especially the local one, is good.
A curiosity, finally. About fifteen years ago, the company had ventured on the recycling of plastic. A pioneering work almost for our area. The factory worked 24 hours on 24, with inevitably noisy machines. Too noisy, at least for homes near the factory. Subsequent protests by residents.
And, after five to six years, was the inevitable end of this interesting work.
Unfortunately it is impossible - to conclude Bernacchia - to live productive zones with those houses.
